Become a Shopper

If you are ...
  • Observant (high attention to detail)
  • Reliable (meet deadlines and honor commitments)
  • A good communicator (written and verbal)
  • Online (with internet access at home or at work)
  • Looking to earn extra money
You can be one of our Mystery Shoppers! Mystery shopping is a great way for you to make additional income while helping companies to improve their level of customer service. During a typical mystery shop, a mystery shopper will make observations at a specific store, restaurant, or other type of location, while blending in like an average customer. As a Mystery Shopper, you will be asked to observe specific details in the establishment and write fact-based reports to provide our clients with actionable data.

How Mystery Shopping Works:

A business hires a mystery shopping company to evaluate their services; and the mystery shopping company, in turn, hires shoppers to perform those evaluations. Shoppers are given a list of things to evaluate/note during the shop. This may include:
  • how long it takes to be greeted
  • speed of service
  • cleanliness of the location
  • compliance with company standards – dress code, signage, greetings, etc.
  • listening for specific services to be offered
  • names/descriptions of employees
After completing a shop, the shopper submits her evaluation (online) and receipts. Payment is made two to four weeks after submission of a successful visit.

Mystery Shopping Basics

Anonymity

The only way a mystery shopper can gather accurate and objective information is if they are completely unknown to the staff members and act as a normal customer. A shopper should be able to visit the same location more than once without being detected by the staff. If you are identified as a mystery shopper then the results of the shop cannot be used, the shop will have to be redone, and you will not be able to shop that client again. If a report is not accepted, the shopper will not be paid for the shop. In order to maintain anonymity during a shop assignment:
  1. Make an effort to appear like any other shopper in the store.
  2. Do not take any of the paperwork associated with the shop onto the premises.
  3. Do not take notes while you may be in sight of employees.
  4. If you need to take notes to help you remember details, go to a place where you will be out of sight, such as the restroom or your car.
  5. Do not stare at nametags.
The cardinal rule is that you must not stand out from the crowd in any way.

Reliability

After completing shops, reliable shoppers submit their reports before the deadline.

As a reliable shopper, it is important that you:
  1. Complete the shops you sign up for.
  2. Visit the correct location on the scheduled date at the correct time.
  3. Carefully follow the instructions for your shop.
  4. Submit your report on time and submit a complete, accurate and detailed report.
  5. Respond to any Customer Insight contact within 24 hours during the workweek.
Integrity, & Ethics

Shoppers agree to the following:
  1. I agree to perform all shops personally and not recruit others to fulfill my assignments.
  2. I will not fill out an application for anyone other than myself. I understand that each person must fill out their own application to become a mystery shopper.
  3. I will not perform shops under anyone else’s name.
  4. If I experience a problem completing a shop, I will contact a Consumer Insight immediately.
  5. I will not submit inaccurate information, including but not limited to falsifying or guessing information regarding something I am uncertain about.
  6. I will not share information with others about the results of shops.
  7. I will not share information with others about which clients are shopped by Customer Insight.
